Ministrante: Prof. Dr. Rony Cristiano - IME/UFG
Data: 02/04/2024

Título do seminário: US Education and One Approach to Active Learning via Mathematical Modeling
Ministrante: Prof. Dr. Weldon A. Lodwick - Professor Emérito da University of Colorado Denver
Data: 12/04/2024
Horário: 14h
Local: Auditório do IME e pelo link https://meet.google.com/fni-uejd-vow
Resumo: The talk today is a view of the US system of education together with one type of active learning via a mathematical modeling project that the first author has conducted over the last 40 years. The type of active learning is a group-base approach where problems from society, institutions, or companies were shared with the math/stat department and brought into the classroom seminar under the leadership of a professor. The seminars were conducted from the academic year of 1981-82 until the present and is a part of the undergraduate and the graduate program. There was at least 1 seminar per semester so that over 42 years there have been at least 84 applied problems on which our students worked.
Seminário 3: 16/04/2024
Título do seminário: Campos de vetores suaves por partes equivariantes
Ministrante: Prof. Ms. Warley Mendes - Doutorando IME/UFG
Data: 16/04/2024
Horário: 10h
Local: Auditório do IME
Título do seminário: Buck Converter
Ministrante: Prof. Ms. Marly T. A. Cabrera- Doutoranda IME/UFG
Data: 23/04/2024
Horário: 10h
Local: Auditório do IME e pelo link https://meet.google.com/fni-uejd-vow
Resumo: A Buck converter is a DC-DC power converter which, from an input voltage, allows us to obtain a lower output voltage. The ideal model of the converter is given by two-dimensional piecewise linear systems, where its evolution is controlled by a switch, i.e., we can control the value of the output voltage by controlling the time that the switch is on and the time that it is off. The goal is to determine, starting from a zero initial voltage at the output, the optimal time t1 > 0 during which switch is on and the optimal time t2 > 0 during which the switch is off, such that, the total time t1 + t2 is the most effective to the transition from the initial voltage to the desired output voltage. The most used control strategies consider linear controllers, guaranteeing only local stability, in some neighborhood of the desired output voltage. In this sense, the converter startup, taking the output voltage to a desired value, ensures the proper functioning of the linear controller to be applied after the converter startup stage. Startup procedures for DC/DC converters are crucial in various applications, where the converters in a given system need to startup at a specific supply voltage, [3].
