Title: Differents Approaches for a Discontinuous Climate Model

Abstract: In this seminar, we will present a study of dynamics of a two-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations that, in the context of climate modeling, represents the glaciation cycle of an idealized Earth. Due to physical constraints that must be taken into account, the associated vector field is defined in a strip of the Euclidean plan, in which the boundary is included and is the discontinuity set the of system. First, we will discuss two approaches that ensures the existence of a periodic (orbit) solution. To finish, we highlight the new approaches that we are considering in the ongoing research, aiming to prove the existence of such an orbit as well. The Filippov's convention and the Geometric Singular Perturbation Theory will be topics covered in the presentation. This is a joint work with professors Rodrigo Euzébio (advisor) and Rony Cristiano from IME/UFG, and professor Richard McGehee from the University of Minnesota-USA.
